OAFE Bursary Program 2025
The OAFE is pleased to be accepting applications for our Bursary Program! Beginning in 2025, one $1000 bursary will be awarded to a student enrolled in a Fire Service Protection and Prevention program at the college level.
Why offer a bursary program? As educators, we want to see students thrive! We recognize that pursuing higher education requires a significant financial investment. Our goal is to help remove barriers to, and lighten the financial burden of, pursuing a career in the fire service.
Eligibility
• The OAFE Bursary is open to all students enrolled in a Fire Service Protection and Prevention program at an Ontario College for the term following the award of the bursary
• Applicant must be a resident of Ontario and a Canadian Citizen
• Students must have an interest in and contribute to their community through active participation in extracurricular activities in fire and life safety
• Applicant must complete the required application package
• The awards are non-renewable and non-transferable
Application Requirements
Each application will include the following:
• Name and signature of application
• Applicant’s college transcript
• Applicant’s resume that includes details of extracurricular activities and contributions to fire and life safety
• Demonstration of financial need
• 300 word explanation of why the applicant aspires to be working in the Fire Service.
• 500 word essay on the importance of Fire & Life Safety Education (public education) and why it is important to you.
• Each application must include a recommendation letter from the program coordinator
Application Deadlines
• Applications will be accepted via the OAFE website
• Applications will be due by January 31st of each calendar year
• The monetary awards will be forwarded to successful applicants upon the completion of the judging and only after the receipt of College confirmation of acceptance and evidence of student commitment to enter a college fire safety program
Consent for Photos & Communications
• The bursary winner will be required to provide the OAFE with a photo
• The bursary winner consents to their photo being posted on the OAFE website and used in other communication by the OAFE
