Program of the Year Award Recipient 2024
This prestigious award honours an Ontario fire department that has demonstrated remarkable creativity and effectiveness in developing a new program, or modernizing an existing one, to engage and benefit their community in a unique and impactful way.
The Program of the Year award seeks to spotlight those who go above and beyond in their commitment to fire education and community outreach. Whether it is through innovative training methods, engaging public education campaigns, or creative use of technology, we want to celebrate programs that make a significant impact and set a new standard for fire education.
Congratulations to this year’s Program of the Year recipient: Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service
Their program submission, “Jump into Fire Safety with Katie,” truly impressed our judges! “Jump Into Fire Safety with Katie” is a collaboration between the Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service Fire Prevention and Public Education team and Rogers TV North Durham-Kawartha and Producer Mel Shannon. The monthly segment is hosted by Katie Dukelow, Fire Prevention Public Educator with KWFRS and each segment highlights a different aspect of fire safety.
“Jump into Fire Safety with Katie” is both engaging and educational and the program exemplifies innovation and dedication to public safety.
The Program of the Year Award was presented at the OAFE Public Education Conference held in Ajax on October 22nd & 23rd, 2024. Katie had the opportunity to present the program to her fellow fire safety professionals.
The program has won KLFRS a $500 credit to the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council which can be used to help further their public education initiatives.
